    Ashington Sprint Triathlon - FULL

    January 17th, 2010

There’s been tremendous interest in our 2010 season opener in April.

So much so, that the event is now Full.

There is a reserve list however and there will be some people who drop out for whatever reason, so you could still get in.

It all looked so good…then !!

    January 13th, 2010

It all looked so good last Monday, Neil & myself were going to our very first CP30 bike test ( more of that in our next blog) in Coach Wright`s garage, We set up our turbo trainers and started our warm up under the watchful eyes of coach Wright. At this time it was -5c in the garage.Coach Wright had us doing a very structured and thorough warm up ..(the warm up itself would of been enough for one of my turbo sessions! ) Time to start the CP30 test and my Turbo decides it has had enough….it goes off, after several attempts to get it working,it just does not want to start…end of my test.. Neil keeps going and rightly so…I try to put lots of layers of clothes on as it is freezing……I stay in the  garage to cheer Neil along. I get home late,I`m cold,my diners in the oven and i do not feel well.

Cold strikes me that night and i`m off work the rest of the week…my first week back into training and i`m having to rest!!

I started to train again on Monday, but only a easy spin session, I`m going to start at Week 1 again, but a little easier….

Have you done your CP30 test ?

    Why “Couple Challenge” ?

    January 4th, 2010

Newbiggin-by-Sea is at the forefront of the North East’s cultural renaissance with the UK’s first ever permanent offshore sculptures, entitled Couple, and was placed on the breakwater, Newbiggin by the Sea on the evening of 17th August 2007.

The Couple, the unique commission by the South East Northumberland Public Art & Design Initiative (INSPIRE) and was the creation of sculpture Sean Henry and stands on the breakwater looking out to Sea in the bay, where the swim takes place. Comprising two five metre tall bronze figures – a man and a woman - the Couple reflect a shared experience, and, by looking out to Sea with their backs to the shore creates an air of mystery by keeping the figures anonymous.

There is also a miniature Couple on land, at Vernon Place, installed November 2007, where the run event passes.

A selection of photos of the Couple being made, being installed on the breakwater, and, in it’s final position today.
