QE2 Sprint Triathlon
QE2 Sprint Triathlon 06/06/2010…..NOW ON CLOSED ROADS
An excellent early open water triathlon set in the local area’s warm shallow water sporting lake, the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park at Woodhorn, Ashington (ideal for beginners). A fast course, starting with a 750m open water lake swim, a 4 lap 20K bike course on closed roads finishing with a 2 lap 5K run around the lake footpath, making this a spectator friendly event.
Having closed roads has enabled Tri Northumberland to extend the event to all Tri Star age groups and Youths, in collaboration with the Triathlon England’s NE Programme Manager, and NE Regional Accademy coaching team, and the aim is to make this a national event for Tri Star and Y&J’s. Juniors will race in the senior race.
The Children’s race will cover all the age categories and the distances will be within BTF guidelines for each category as decribed below:
Tri star start (8 years) Swim 50m ; Bike 1.5Km; Run 600m
Tri star 1 (9-10 years) Swim 150m ; Bike 4Km; Run 1.2km

Seniors (19+ years) Swim 750m ; Bike 20Km; Run 5km
Tri Northumberland have a growing reputation for putting on “European” style events where the local community support the races and you are sure to race with a smile all the way to the finish line!
Ptior to the race day, the organisers will be facilitating coached swim sessions which will cater for all abilities, from beginners to experienced seniors. Coaching will provided by the regions swim coach specialist, Neil Bowers. This was a very popular series in 2009 and we have better things planned for 2010!
